Head Teacher's Blog 15th September

Dear All,

Firstly may I start by apologising that this Blog will not hit the website until Monday – we had some technical issues on Friday afternoon (a power cut!!) which meant I couldn’t access the bit on the internet that I needed.

Our first full week of the school year has been very busy and very exciting. Our students have really risen to the challenge of the new school year and the atmosphere around the college continues to be purposeful and positive. The COSMOS roadshow have been in school all week and have worked with every science group in years 7-10. The COSMOS team travel from the Cambridge Science Centre to bring science into the community with their fun and interactive displays and activities. Year 11 didn’t miss out as the activities were open to them during breaks and lunchtimes. Students had a great time and learned about gravity, space and forces whilst launching rockets and also completing experiments in the science department. Special thanks to Mrs Gilman for organising the event and to Alex Madison – our student ambassador who worked with the COSMOS team all week to ensure they had everything they needed and that students got to the right place at the right time.

Primary Liaison was a big part of this week as well. We invited the Year 6 students from Long Sutton Primary to join us for the COSMOS roadshow in Wednesday and they also spent time in science with Mrs Butler to extract DNA from strawberries! The students had a great time and it was lovely to see them with their teachers in our school. Many of these students were back on Thursday when we held our annual Year 6 Open Evening, when students come to look round with their parents to decide if they want to attend Peele when they reach Year 7. The Open Evening was very successful, with over 130 sets of students and parents visiting us. All of the departments put in a great deal of effort so we could show the community what we are all about here at The Peele. Student helpers and guides did a great job and were incredible ambassadors for the school so big thanks to all of you that helped out. I would like to extend my personal thanks to the all of The Peele staff who have worked hard all week to make the Open Evening so successful.

Onwards to next week – we have Open Mornings coming up for Year 6 students and their parents on 19th and 21st of September and 3rd and 5th of October so we look forward to welcoming you all to see us in action. We have a ‘Friends of The Peele’ meeting on Wednesday evening at 6.00pm in the school library – all welcome who would like to be part of the ‘Friends’ team. We also have a Parents Evening for parents of Year 7 so they can meet their child’s tutor and discuss the term so far – this is on Thursday from 4.30pm.

I hope that you all have a great week and will make aim to get the Blog out on time next time.

Best wishes to you all,

Mrs Moody
