Head Teacher's Blog 14th September 2018
Hello and welcome to my weekly Blog. This is where we aim to keep you updated with the latest goings-on here at The Peele.
This week was very much 'back to business' after the excitement of returning to school. I have seen lots of fantastic lessons as I walk around the school and our students continue to be an inspiration. The Apprenticeship Evening on Wednesday was hugely successful and very informative. If you would like any information about the new style apprenticeships (very different to the old YTS schemes!), then please do contact us - there is a press release and information elsewhere on this website.
It is our Year 6 Open Evening on Thursday 27th September - from 5.00pm - 8.00pm. This is followed by an Open Day on the Friday (28th) where there will be tours at 9.30am and 2.00pm. On the 27th there will be activities and displays in all areas of the school, where the different departments will show you what they do. We are currently looking for student volunteers to help in each subject area and to act as tour guides on the night - if students are interested then they should see their tutor or subject teacher.
We are currently looking for new volunteers to join Friends of the Peele - they have a meeting on Wednesday 19th September at 6.30pm so if you are interested, please do come and join us in the school Library.
We are also looking for a new Parent Governor. If you have some time and are interested in helping us to shape the future of The Peele then please email 'email@example.com' and I will pass on your details to the Clerk to the Governors.
The House System is developing quickly, with each House now having a motto, song and shield. We will be appointing student leaders within each House, including Form, Sports and House Captains. The Junior Leadership Team will be up and running within the next 2 weeks and they will be working closely with the Heads Of House and myself to bring about improvements across the school. See your tutors for details.
Next Thursday we have a Parents Evening for Year 7 parents to meet with their form tutors, a chance to check that the term has started well and there are no 'teething troubles' as our newest students settle in. This runs from 5.00-6.00pm in the main hall.
Finally, a word about Homework. The system now is that Maths, English and Science will set weekly homework for all year groups. Humanities will set weekly homework for years 7 and 8 and fortnightly for years 9, 10 and 11. All other subjects will be setting work fortnightly. Some subject areas are setting a project for the term but deadlines are clear for students. The amount of time will vary according to the year group, so year 7/8 students will get 20-30 minutes per subject; working up to 40 minutes to an hour for year 11s (although a great deal of that will be revision). If any student has concerns about Homework they should see their subject teacher or their tutor for help.
I hope you all have a lovely weekend, please do get in touch if you have any queries or ideas for improving the school - firstname.lastname@example.org.
