Head Teacher's Blog 22nd April
Welcome to my first Blog of the Summer Term - my apologies for the sporadic timing of my recent Blogs, normal service has now been resumed! Well, almost - this week I am publishing on a Sunday for a very specific reason - today is our 60th birthday! Yes, The Peele is 60 years old today. We are very excited to have reached such a milestone and hope that this will herald a new era of progress and positivity for all who are involved with The Peele.
To celebrate, we have several activities lined up during the next term - in fact we started our celebrations early with a visit from two of the very first teachers to work at The Peele - Margaret Rose and Joan Thornton joined us on Tuesday for lunch with our JLT and chatted about what life was like back in those early days. We look forward to welcoming them back for more events and there will be more detail in later news articles - both school news and local newspapers.
Our next events are on Friday 27th April - we are planning to have a whole school photograph on the field during lesson 3 (so please all keep your fingers crossed for good weather!!). This will be followed by a whole school assembly in the afternoon with a 60's themed concert and then Friends of The Peele are holding a Quiz Night in the evening at the school - doors open at 6.30pm for a 7pm start - entry is £2 for children and £4 for adults. There is a huge selection of prizes to be won and the Quiz will include a round all about the history of The Peele - please do come along and join in as we will have lots of fun and all money raised will go towards extra resources. We are currently looking at investing in some outside furniture for break and lunch activities for students. Quiz teams should be around 4 people and please feel free to bring your choice of refreshments - there will be some available on the night.
Here is some advance notice of our Summer Fete which will be on 7th July - it will be bigger and better than last year so please do come along and join in the fun. If you are able to volunteer to run a stall or would like to have your own stall then please contact the school and we will pass your details on to the FOP committee.
Friends of The Peele have asked me to pass on their requests for donations for prizes for the various events coming up - please send them in to reception.
It has been a busy first week of the term with the GCSE Art exam taking place all week. Year 11 are building up to their written GCSEs and coursework is being completed and marked right now. I would like to say how impressed I am with the Product Design work - the items that the students have made are absolutely stunning - the quality of the work and time spent on the presentation of the pieces is truly inspiring and I congratulate all of our students on their efforts so far. Remember, Year 11, that we are here to support you. Keep working hard and you can achieve those grades. PE have their Moderators visit on Wednesday this week so best of luck to all GCSE PE students - remember to bring all your kit, stay focused and show the very best of yourselves and your skills to the external examiner.
So on to the rest of this term - the good weather has made a pleasant change and we have finally been able to open the field for students at lunch times. I will let you know when we make any uniform changes but for now blazers and ties remain - although when it is hot students can remove their blazers at break and lunchtime when in the social areas or outside. Within classrooms the wearing of blazers is at the discretion of the class teacher. Work continues apace for all years even as we are focussing on the GCSEs for our Year 11s.
I hope you all have a great week and that the weather stays fine for us. Please do come along to support FOP and the school on Friday evening - and win some great prizes. Until next week......
