Head Teacher's Blog 5th January 2018
Happy New Year to you all, and welcome to the first Blog of 2018.
It has been a relatively quiet week, with only 3 working days for the students it has been time to settle back in to the routine. We have made a few changes for the New Year, the most significant of which is that we have extended lunch time to 45 minutes (we have not used any lesson time for this). This is in response to students asking for more lunchtime activities, and more time to enjoy these activities. Staff were also asking for longer lunchtimes to allow for more constructive revision sessions, especially with year 11. PE in particular needed more time for students to take part in their many and varied sports opportunities. I have been speaking to some students today and they said that they appreciate the extra time. Our JLT will be asking for student opinions on the change so please do tell us what you think.
I would like to formally welcome 4 new members of staff who join us this term. In Humanities we welcome Mr Ewen and in DT we welcome Mrs Watson (Product Design) and Mrs Theobald (Food Technology). We will also have Mr Penn joining us from the start of February to teach in the DT department - he has already been in to introduce himself to our students and to do some volunteer work with our Year 11 exam groups.
It has been very rewarding to see our students return with such enthusiasm for their work. The majority of classes have been quiet and purposeful, with students really taking the opportunity for a fresh start and a few New Year's resolutions. I feel so proud to be a part of The Peele and to be working with such a dedicated team of staff who really care about our students; and with so many students who work so hard to achieve their best.
2018 promises to be an exciting year for us. It is the Diamond Anniversary year for The Peele School so there will be various events to celebrate. Please do contact us with your memories and stories of The Peele through the last 60 years, and any ideas for celebrations and events. We have already had some staff and students from the very first day that the school opened and their stories are fascinating - thank you to everyone who has been in touch so far.
A bit of advance notice that we have Year 10 Parents Evening on Thursday 11th January and Year 11 on Thursday 25th January.
I wish you all a restful weekend. I hope that 2018 is a good year for us all.
