Head Teacher's Blog 7th September 2018
Hello and welcome to an new school year of Blogs.
It has been a very busy week here at The Peele and we have had lots of new faces in through the door. Along with our 147 Year 7 students, we have had 7 new teachers, 4 trainee teachers and new pastoral and support staff joining the team. We have also introduced the new House System and the arrival of the SIMS data management system means we have hit the ground running as never before!
On the subject of SIMS, we know that there have been some technical issues with SIMS Agora (the parent-pay system) - we are working with the SIMS provider to resolve this and we will keep you informed. In the meantime, if you are still having trouble with access, you can send money in with the students which they can take to the Finance Office to add to their account. If you have any concerns, please do email 'email@example.com' and we respond as quickly as we can.
Welcome to all our new staff - Mr Archer, Ms Stollery and Miss English in English; Mr Murfet and Mr Offiler in Maths; Mrs Newell and Mrs Austin in Humanities; Mrs Pumfrey, Mrs Leeper and Miss Horspool in Science; Mrs O'Hara in French. I am very pleased to have so many experienced, passionate and innovative staff joining our team here at The Peele and I know they are already impressed with our brilliant students.
Our Houses are named for the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight (as voted for by students and staff last term). Head of Spitfire house is Mrs Newell, Head of Lancaster House is Mrs Swain and Head of Hurricane House is Mrs Pumfrey. More news from the Houses in forthcoming Blogs.
At this point I would like to thank our students - they have all come back to school looking incredibly smart and with a positive attitude. I am proud of the way that they have settled straight in and given their all to their lessons. Our new staff have all commented on the warm welcome they have received, and how polite and helpful our students are.
A quick word about the school website - when you are looking at the Holiday dates, please double check that you are looking at the right academic year. It does seem that there has been some confusion regarding this. The dates for last academic year and this academic year are next to each other. We will remove the old dates as soon as we can.
Some information for you now, regarding Careers and Apprenticeships in particular - a message from Mrs Gilman:
On Wednesday 12th September between 5-7pm we will be holding our Apprenticeship evening in school. The evening will begin with a short presentation from The Apprenticeship Service who can answer any questions that you have about Apprenticeships and how these work. Further presentations will take place from the training providers who organise the Apprenticeships and qualifications for local employers. There will be stands from local employers and training providers who will discuss what types of Apprenticeships they offer and how to apply for vacancies. Mrs Gilman Careers Adviser will be around to answer any questions that students and parents may have about specific careers and careers information in general. We are opening this event to the local community so if you have a child who has left The Peele Community College or attend another local secondary school then they are welcome to attend.
Finally, our annual Year 6 Open Evening takes place on 27th September and we will have an open day with a morning and afternoon session on Friday 28th September - more details to follow.
I will sign off for now - I wish you all a lovely weekend - and look forward to a term of hard work and positive rewards for us all.
