Head Teacher's Blog - Start of the New Term

Hello Everyone and Welcome to the new Academic Year.

This is just a short Blog with some information for you for the start of the new term.

Monday 3rd September is a Staff Training Day - school will be open if you have any queries.

Tuesday 4th September - all students return. We have changed to the House system so all forms have changed. Form lists will be displayed in the social area for years 8-11. Year 7s should go straight to the main hall where their tutors will meet them.

Houses are named for the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight, so we have Hurricane, Lancaster and Spitfire (as voted for by students). We have 3 new Heads of House - students will find out more during the first week in House Assemblies. Tutors will have a key role and are the first port of call for parents/carers. Students should use Tutor Time each morning to make sure they are prepared for the day and any issues are discussed. The focus will be on improving progress for all.

We have introduced Student Support Services - there will be a separate reception area for students to go to with any problems or concerns. This will be staffed by Mrs Bridger and Mr Harrison, who will be working closely with Ms Hoyles (Attendance Officer), Mrs King (Behaviour Support Mentor) and Mrs Whitehead (Inclusion Manager). Mrs Whitehead will direct this new team, with Mr Harrison as the coordinator for student support requests.

Uniform rules are not changed and skirts must be knee length. Trousers should be tailored and not skinny-fit. Students will lose their free time if uniform is not correct (and may be isolated in extreme cases). If you have any concerns, please contact the school.

Mobile phone rules are not changed - they are permitted in the morning, in the social area and canteen only. After 8.50am phones should not be seen until students have left the premises after 3.20pm. Photos MUST NOT  be taken by students without specific written permission from myself.

I will hold assemblies with students on Tuesday to update them on the changes. If there are any concerns after these have taken place, then please contact your child's tutor in the first instance.

I am looking forward to the new academic year - and to continuing to work with you all to ensure all of our young people can fulfill their potential.

The sky is the limit!

Mrs Moody
